Vadakkumnathan Temple, Thrissur
One of the oldest temples in Kerala State, India, the Vadakkumnathan Temple is a classic example of the Kerala style of temple architecture with many decorative murals and pieces of art. This is the venue of the world famous Pooram festival celebrated annually in April-May. This temple with the deity Vadakkunnathan (Siva) is believed to have been built by the legendary Parasurama. It is on top of a beautiful hillock at the center of Trichur, overlooking Trichur town.
The Government of India has declared the Vadakkumnathan temple as a national monument under the Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Sites and Remains Act.
